Just after 8am on Friday, a 12-year-old boy was waiting on the side of the Newell Highway about 24km south of Coonabarabran for his school bus.
Police will allege a car passed the boy and stopped up the road before reversing back towards him.
It’s further alleged the man asked the boy to get into the car and when the boy refused the man walked towards him. The boy was able to pick up a stick to protect himself and the man returned to his car and drove off.
The boy boarded his bus which arrived a short time later and informed the bus driver of the incident. The driver was able to follow the car and obtain a description.
Police then launched a search for the car.
About 11am Highway Patrol officers found the car on the Newell Highway, about 40km south of Narrabri. The 59-year-old Western Australian man was arrested and taken to Narrabri Police Station where he was charged with intimidation and three counts of possessing a prescribed restricted substance.
The man was refused bail and appeared at Moree Local Court on Saturday where he was again refused bail. He will re-appear in Moree Local Court on February 24, 2014.
