A LOCAL employment advertisement offering free beer for a year has attracted international attention.
Eric Scott Electrical and Air-Conditioning Services are offering the ale in an effort to try and attract skilled workers to town.
Owner, Eric Scott was overwhelmed when he received a phone call at 4pm on Tuesday morning from France.
“A recruiting lady was ringing me about the free beer ad, saying she had staff that wanted to take up the chance to work here,” Mr Scott said.
The idea was to keep the ad running locally and if there wasn’t enough response he would take it to the metro papers.
“Well we ran it in Tamworth on Saturday and before it even went into the Moree Champion we had responses,” he said.
Other newspapers and radio stations started contacting Mr Scott wanting to know all about the interesting beer advertisement and before they knew it, the ad was hitting metro papers.
“Two radio stations, one from Melbourne and the other from Sydney, were really interested in our ad which was really good publicity for us,” Mr Scott said.
With 25 applicants and six solid expressions of interest the interviewing will start on Monday.
“It will depend on the individual, their interview and if they will be willing to stay and live in Moree,” he said.
According to Mr Scott there were even applicants that did not drink alcohol who were still interested.
“We had a few who just wanted to come to Moree because they thought it was a great country place to raise their family,” Mr Scott said.
“That’s the whole reason we are doing something different to create attention and bring more people to Moree.”
Other local businesses have been in contact with Mr Scott asking him how effective the add had been.
“Half of Moree are short on staff just because there isn’t enough tradesmen locally to fill the positions that our businesses are looking for,” he said.
