The Moree Boars reserve grade side played Narrabri in the opening semi-final at Wee Waa on Sunday.
The Boars walked away with a 22-20 victory over Narrabri.
Coach Brett Brazel said although the score line reflected a close game, the Boars controlled the second half after trailing 10-4 at half time.
“We were definitely the more physical side on the day. Narrabri scored most of their tries from dummy half and scored a late try on the bell to make the score line 22-20,” Brazel said.
The Boars will have this weekend off and will play either North or West Tamworth the following weekend for a spot in the Grand Final.
The Moree Boomerangs reserve grade side had a tight game against Uralla at the weekend.
The Rangs snuck away with a 36-30 victory, cementing their spot on top of the ladder.
The under 18s had a 19-19 draw against Uralla.
The Ladies League Tag went down 36-12.
The Rangs A grade side will be back this weekend as they take on Tingha at home for a spot in the semi-finals.
Moree FC had a 3-0 win over the Narrabri Cougars in Narrabri at the weekend.
A hand ball by Narrabri allowed Josh O’Neile to score the first goal in the opening 30 minutes.
O’Neile also scored the other two goals.
Coach Darrel Smith praised Moree for the victory.
“Surprisingly Narrabri put up quite a fight, meaning everybody had to step up,” Smith said.
“We kept the ball wide in the second half and were too strong for them in the end.”
The latest win brings them into third on the ladder.
Reserve grade went down 4-2 to Narrabri.
Moree FC will be playing the North Tamworth Companions on Saturday in Moree and a catch up game against Tamworth FC on Sunday.
The Weebolla Bulls first grade side can say goodbye to a spot in the semi-finals after going down to Gunnedah 30-12 at the weekend.
A few bombed chances early in the first half allowed Gunnedah to control the game, according to coach Peter Copeman.
“We played well in patches but couldn’t seem to recover from a few lost chances early in the first half,” Copeman said.
“Gunnedah played well and were too good on the day.”
Reserve Grade lost 27-22 but will still have a chance at making the semi-finals if they can come away with the win against Barraba this weekend.
The Moree and District Cricket Association applied for a $110,000 Building and Community Partnerships grant for new lights at Ron Harborne Oval earlier
this year.
Unfortunately the grant was knocked back.
Moree and District Cricket Association president Rob Humphries was disappointed not to receive the funding.
“I guess it’s unfortunate that we didn’t receive the funding. We will be looking for alternative funding grants throughout the year.”
Last weekend the Moree Physical Culture Club took 41 members to the 25th Anniversary Gunnedah Interclub.
During the two days clubs from around the area competed in their champion girl age groups.
Moree competed against clubs from Tamworth, Dubbo, Armidale, Muswelbrook, Gunnedah and Coonabarabran.
Interclub competitions are a friendly competition hosted by a Physie Club for other invited clubs.
Here competition is held for each age group in order to practise for the Junior Zone and Ladies Zone both held later in October.
The Moree club came home very successful with 26 of its members bringing home a prize.
Sam Biggs, club head teacher said it was incredible to watch the girls turn on their competition face and put everything taught in class into motion.
“It’s very encouraging when the girls’ hard work is rewarded, but more than anything we encourage everyone to have a great time, and I’m pretty sure from all the smiling faces at the weekend everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.”
