Tulloona school celebrates 50 years

Tulloona P&C Association will be holding celebrations on July 7 to commemorate 50 years since the school opened.

In February 1959 the school was established and housed in shearers’ quarters for nearly three years until the new building was completed on the present site in 1961 and officially opened in December 1961. This means as a school Tullona is 53-years-old or 50-years-old on the present site. Since that time there have been over 500 students pass through the school and the P&C has gathered as many students, teachers, staff, parents and friends as possible to celebrate.

Two functions will mark the 50-year celebrations starting on July 7 from 9.30am to 1.30pm at the school and continuing that night from 5.30pm with a dinner at the Goondiwindi Community Centre.

The main aim for the day is a reunion to meet up with old friends and reminisce. There will be memorabilia displays, a photo display on screens of classes plus the official launch of a book which contains the memories of students, teachers and parents, historical items and class lists from 1959 to 2012 along with many class photos.

Food, tea and coffee are included in the entry price and are available all day.

The dinner at night will be a two course meal accompanied by a display of all photos in the book, this time in colour, and more story telling. Bookings are essential. Email Kerrie Hayes at kerriehayes@bigpond.com or contact Tulloona Public School on 6754 7160.
