The man said it was a shame that the town’s facility was “overrun by bureaucratic red tape”.
“I was here to visit family. I just visited the Moree pool and gym to do a training session in the gym with my nephew. He trains at gyms regularly and I train at a gym on the Gold Coast four to five times a week and have done for over 20 years,” he said.
Upon arrival, the man and his nephew were greeted at the reception desk and asked for a casual visit with gym access.
The man was asked if they had done inductions to the gym.
“I mentioned that my nephew had done his induction but I was a visitor to town for the weekend and that I had not done an induction. The young lass told me she would have to get her supervisor,” he said.
The supervisor shortly came over and asked for a membership number and told the man he would have to do an induction.
“I had no problem with this and asked to pay for a casual visit and would do the induction. She then (said) we could not do the induction that day as there wasn’t another scheduled induction until the next day.”
The staff member said he would have to come back the following day, but the man said he couldn’t as he was only visiting the town and had prior commitments.
“I have had to leave my nephew there training and come home without the ability to do a workout. As a result of this craziness, my money is still in my bank account instead of being circulated in your local economy.
"When times are tough I would think that a willing paying customer is hard to come by and shouldn’t be turned away, this council operation is a business not just a community facility,” he said.
“In the past I have come to town and used the pool on a number of occasions and have always enjoyed the facility, however this treatment today is quite honestly ridiculous. Why is there not someone there to enable an induction to take place when a paying customer arrives?
"There was a number of staff at the venue. Seems like insurance paranoia gone mad! I just urge the townsfolk to fix this issue as it really is not the best way to operate a business,” he said. The Moree Champion tried contacting the staff at the Moree Artesian Aquatics Centre but had not received a response at the time of going to press.
