Croft, a member of the Moree Water-Ski Club, has been busy competing in Stanthorpe and Port Macquarie.
The competition in Stanthorpe was held over two rounds and a final to cater for skiers from an area north to Bundaberg and south to St George and Grafton.
It was held at Storm King Dam on January 14 and 15.
The weekend event attracted 50 skiers from areas including Bundaberg, Goondiwindi, Moree, Hervey Bay, Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Toowoomba.
Croft competed in division two, slalom and placed fourth out of 16 competitors.
“I was happy with the result but thought I could have skied a bit better,” he said.
Conditions were tough, according to Croft, with a steady downpour of rain keeping people wet in and out of the water.
Last weekend Croft entered in the Australian Junior Masters slalom competition in Port Macquarie.
He placed sixth out of 12 competitors and competed in the under 21 division.
“I was competing against some really good skiers,” Croft said.
“A few skiers from overseas competed in the event including the world champ,” he said.
Croft’s preparation for the two tournaments had been a little less than he had hoped for.
“It’s hard to make it out to the water every day. We try and make it out there a few times a week,” he said.
“I wish Moree would hurry up and build our own ski park,” Croft said.
Nevertheless Croft shocked himself by beating his own personal best in Port.
“I improved my tournament PB but couldn’t beat my personal best that I had set in training.”
Croft plans on getting back behind the boat and training hard for the upcoming competitions.
A tournament will be held on February 14 at Woodford.
He will then ski his way into the State and National titles that will be held around Easter.
After the skiing season wraps up and the winter woolies come out, Croft will be jetting off to America to ski in June/July.
“I’ll be spending my time in the US training at a ski school,” Croft said.
Croft still has some training and tough competitions on the horizon.
Let’s hope he flies the Moree flag and wipes the floor with the competition when he competes early next month.
