Special occasion for Boomerangs

12 Jan, 2012 11:56 AM
With over 200 people in attendance, the presentation celebrated the club’s long and proud history that can be dated back as far as 1925.

Now in its 86th year, the club recognised the extraordinary contribution of players, coaches, officials and volunteers who have distinguished themselves during the year, and who were deservedly rewarded for their efforts.

Whilst there was no shortage of standout candidates for the awards, all players, coaches and officials were congratulated for their outstanding performances and commitment to the club in the 2011 season.

The night was officially opened by community Elder and life member Lyall Munro Snr.

Mr Munro also took on the arduous job of awarding the Lyall and Carmine Munro and Family Trophy which is awarded to the Overall Player of The Year.

The 2011 recipient was Mundarra Weldon.

There was no question Weldon was a standout, even in this extremely deep pool of talented footballers.

Weldon’s skill as a player has justly earned him praise at club, group and knockout level.

Described simply as a player with sheer brilliance and class that shone at every game, Weldon is a gifted player who is seen to be willing to go above and beyond.

Weldon also took out the Best and Fairest awards in both A Grade and the knockout team.

Weldon through his efforts has been signed by NRL club Wests Tigers and is currently training with them for the 2012 season.

Brian Saunders Jnr was awarded the Cheeky McIntosh Overall Rookie of the Year Award for his outstanding performances in all three grades and at knockout level.

Saunders was also awarded the Best and Fairest award for the juniors.

This young man has a bright future ahead of him and is currently training with the Redcliffe club in Brisbane.

Other Best and Fairest Award winners for the night went to Anthony Robinson in Reserve Grade and Linda Smith in the Women’s League Tag.
