The Moree Boars play the Wee Waa Panthers at Boughton Oval on Saturday, in a match crucial to the home side’s finals’ hopes.
It is probably a must-win game for the last-placed Boars - but if they can record their third consecutive victory, and results go their way, finishing in the top four becomes a realistic possibility.
The table reads: West Lions 28, Wee Waa 22, Narrabri 18, Gunnedah 17, North Tamworth 17 and Moree 15.
So if Moree win, and Norths and Gunnedah lose away to Wests and Narrabri respectively, Moree will draw level on 17 points with their two nearest rivals.
When the Boars and Panthers last met, in Wee Waa on July 3, Moree had a heartbreaking 37-36 point loss in extra time, despite outscoring their opponents eight tries to seven.
While the Moree reserves are better placed than the first graders, a win is also very important to their finals’ hopes.
The table reads: West Lions 26, Narrabri 22, Gunnedah 13, Moree 11, North Tamworth 10 and Wee Waa 6.
In the under-18s, fourth-placed Moree (15) will want to beat third-placed Farrer (17), knowing that Norths (12) are breathing down their necks. It would allow the young Boars to complete the set, as Farrer are the only team they have yet to beat.
Starting the day at 11am will be the under-16s - and theirs is a must-win game. They are in fifth place (10), and so if they want to finish in the top four, a victory over fourth-placed Farrer (15) is essential.
