All three grades lost but first grade coach Todd Mitchell said the sides showed promise for the coming season.
“There was a lot of new faces but it was a good run for fitness and gives the guys an opportunity to have a game at home,” he said.
“It is good to put in a good performance so people who come down can see that Moree has turned a corner.”
Mitchell said he was fairly pleased with the A grade performance. The side went down 28-26 in a close game.
“The most pleasing thing is their fitness; they are probably one of the fitter sides in the competition,” he said.
“All of the team put their hand up and had a go; they shared the workload around pretty well. The three halves went really well.”
Mitchell said he would take the season one game at a time but he thought this side was a bit more ‘steely’ than previous years.
“There’s a lot of youth with will to win,” he said.
Reserve grade lost their match against Goondiwindi 48 -12 but showed strength in the front row.
“The forward pack is one of the best in the competition,” Mitchell said.
“They are lacking some outside backs but if they get some more backs they have potentially a good chance of getting into the semis down the track.”
The 18s have gathered a few more numbers but are still looking for more players.
“There’s a lot of new kids coming through but we’re still taking registrations for 18s,” Mitchell said.
Training is from 6.30pm on Tuesday and Thursday nights at Boughton Oval.
Moree will play again in Tamworth at the knockout competition on March 31 and April 1. The first game of the season is on April 15.
