CHRIS Thomas, Jamie Woods and Bryce Loder received some good news on Monday: they have been given a start in the Pro Open class at this Sunday’s MX Nationals.
That means that they will be up against the likes of series leader Jay Marmont and Moree Motorcycle Club life member Tye Simmonds, who is coming third in the championship.
Thomas and Woods said that they were excited by the opportunity, although they were also feeling nervous.
Given that they are part-time racers who will be thrown into battle with seasoned professionals, their ambitions are modest. According to Thomas, they are simply hoping not to get lapped.
Regardless of how they fare, Thomas was enthused by the prospect of such a big event coming to Moree, likening it to the NRL deciding to play a match here.
“It’s probably the biggest event to ever come to Moree,” he said.
Thomas and Woods will both be at Saturday’s fans’ day, which will be held at Thomas-Lee Motorcycles from 10am to 11.30am.
On Sunday, practice begins at 8.30am, with qualifying and racing starting at about 10.30am. Tickets can be bought on the day, and cost $30 for adults, $15 for children (five to 15) and $70 for families (two adults, two children). Under-5s are free.
