The Moree round of the MX Nationals has received rave reviews, with the Moree Motorcycle Club having done everything possible to earn a three-year hosting contract.
Series director Kevin Williams was glowing in his praise, saying that the MMC had “absolutely” done everything to ensure that the event stays in Moree from 2011-13.
MMC vice president John Armstrong also said that the feedback he had received had been “all very positive”, and that “we couldn’t do any more to ensure the three-year contract”.
According to Williams, the Boolooroo Raceway was a “great track” that had produced “great racing”.
Both the venue and the MMC’s organisational work had won favour with riders and team bosses.
“Out of the seven rounds we’ve had, it was the best we’ve had so far,” Williams said, adding that Moree was a strong contender to win the MX Nationals round-of-the-year trophy.
Speaking on Monday, Armstrong was still on a high from what he called a “huge, huge, huge day”.
He said that while some of the teams had come to Moree with negative preconceptions, all had been won over by the quality of the 2.2km track, the facility and the pits.
Both men were happy with the crowd, which Williams estimated at about 2000.
Although Williams “would’ve liked to see a bit more”, he said that it was a good gate, given that the Boomerangs and Boars had been playing at home, and that Moree had only been awarded the event on short notice.
