Moree has been awarded a three-year MX Nationals contract, after earning rave reviews for the job it did hosting round seven on July 18.
In a second piece of good news, Moree has also been awarded the round-of-the-year trophy.
After the MX Nationals season finished on Sunday, series director Kevin Williams publicly announced that motocross would be returning to Moree from 2011 to 2013, although it has yet to be officially confirmed.
It came at the same time that Moree was named the season’s best round, beating Horsham, Canberra, Toowoomba, Raymond Terrace, Albury and Coolum to the prize.
According to Moree Motorcycle Club president Rory Johnson, it was “well deserved”.
He said that it was the product of a lot of hard work from a lot of people, both in the lead-up and on the day.
“I think it was because of the work put in by the members and the committee, and also the support we got from the community,” he said.
“On the day, all our helpers and officials were very professional.”
He said that the award proved the quality of the Boolooroo Raceway.
“The track layout is one of the best in Australia - you could call it the best in Australia now. The whole complex is world class.”
His vice president, John Armstrong, agreed.
“That officially makes us the best track in the country as far as I’m concerned.”
Johnson said that the award belonged not just to the MMC, but the entire Moree community.
“It’s a feather in everyone’s cap, and all accolades should go out to the community.”
In light of the comments Williams made after round seven, neither the three-year contract nor the trophy came as a surprise.
He said that the MMC had “absolutely” done everything to win the contract.
He also said that the Boolooroo Raceway was a “great track” that had produced “great racing”.
