New South Wales’ Rohan Blizard and Victoria’s David Bransdon shared first place at the weekend’s $25,000 Moree Pro-Am.
The pair were five-under the card and they picked up a cheque of $3615.50 each.
Bransdon scored a five-under 67 on the first day but could only manage an even-par 72 on Sunday.
Blizard stroked a one-under 71 on Saturday and finished strongly on Sunday with a four-under 68 to share the spoils.
One stroke behind them in equal third place were NSW pair Simon Furneaux and Tristan Lambert who finished four-under the card.
Queensland’s Stuart Bouvier had a brilliant start on Saturday with 67 but his challenge petered out when he scrambled to a two-over 74 on Sunday.
Bouvier shared fifth place with NSW’s Edward Stedman who opened with a storming 66 on Saturday but his hopes were dashed with a three-over 75 on Sunday.
Hot favourite Andrew Bonhomme, of Goondiwindi, failed to ignite the golf course and finished with a pair of 75s to finish in 30th place.
The best of the Moree professionals was local pro Matthew McGuire who finished in 12th place after shooting 71 and 73 – even par. Locals John Brown finished 25th, Simon Gough was 30th while Adrian Heffer and Asef Haddad were well down the field.
McGuire said Bransdon and Blizard “played well” to win the Moree Pro-Am but he wasn’t happy with his own chipping.
“My chipping let me down quite severely,” McGuire said.
However, Brown did have some success at the Friday night shootout - he was closest to the target and received $500 for his efforts. Tasmania’s Scott Priest was second and won $300 and NSW’s Steven Jeffress was third and pocketed $200.
The sponsors’ shootout winner was Westpac regional manager David Chomley.
About 120 people turned up for dinner at the Moree Golf Club on Saturday night and the Calcutta winner was local Sharon Wilde who had studied Rohan Blizard’s form on Saturday and secured him as her pick.
The Moree junior golfers also won out as $280 was donated to junior golf.
