Chris Thomas was placed fourth in the outright results and second in the class results in his first dessert race - the 2009 Gascoyne Dash in Western Australia.
The 507-kilometre race was held over two days near Carnarvon, Western Australia, 187kms on the first day followed by 320 on the second. The off-road course was held through rugged station properties and the dry Gascoyne River bed, ending at the Carnarvon Race Course. “It was definitely lots of fun, I’m really proud of the result,” Thomas said.
He rode a 2010 Honda CRF450R on loan from Honda Australia. He came 14th place after completing the compulsory 10-kilometres prologue.
“The bike was spot on. A lot of bikes failed to make the finish but my CRF was solid.”
The Moree resident, riding since he was two-years-old, is a member of the Moree Motorcycle Club and a mechanic by trade. His motor cycling skills have taken him abroad including the Las Vegas mini SX, races in New Zealand and all over Australia. When asked about prize money, he replied he rides for “no prize money, just the glory.” These race results in the Gascoyne Dash is a career highlight, others include being in the top five enduro championships, a four-day race.
