HISTORY will be made at the Moree Racecourse on December 17.
It will be the first time the course has hosted a combined
racing-greyhound meeting, according to Moree Greyhound Racing Club secretary Helen Ayre.
“It’s an idea that has been thrown around by a lot of people and it just so happened that our dates clashed,
so we seized the opportunity to do it,” she said.
The dogs will start racing at 11.30am, finish about 2pm and be gone from the track by about 2.30pm. There will probably be eight or nine races.
The horses will appear for the first of five races at 3.45pm.
The hope had been for the greyhounds and horses to alternate their races, but the steward wouldn’t allow
that, Ayre said.
She predicted the combined meeting would produce a larger-than-usual crowd for the greyhounds and said spectators would be treated to quick, entertaining races.
“The greyhounds bring a lot of different people to Moree so it’s a social thing and just to see a different side of racing,” she said. “I hope everybody comes out and makes a good day of it.”
The gates will open at 10am. Entry will cost $10.
There will be a courtesy bus running from the course.
