Two local pony club riders are in Sydney competing in the 2009 Pony Club Australia National Championships.
Warialda Pony Club’s Liz Chamberlain and Collarenebri Pony Club’s Katie Remond are at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre for the competition that started on Sunday and will end Saturday.
The two riders are competing in dressage, show jumping and cross country events.
They started on Sunday afternoon when Chamberlain’s horse Gold Quill and Remond’s horse True Blue Toozac were examined and given the all clear by veterinarians.
The competition started yesterday for the riders, with a practise show jumping event and today they will be competing in a practise dressage event.
Although they will not become national champions by winning the practise events, there are ribbons up for grabs and it is an opportunity to prepare on the Horsley Park facility.
The New South Wales team will be selected from the practise events and the riders not selected in the team will compete as individuals later in the week
They will be competing in the main dressage event tomorrow. On Thursday the pair will compete in the cross-country event. Friday they will be on the show jumping course.
The national championships will end on Saturday, when a final parade and presentation will be held and an individual champion will be named.
Chamberlain said she hoped to be the individual champion but all she could do was get on and do her job, doing as best she could.
