Sunday saw Moree host the M.A Connelly Cup grand final against Armidale, with the away side coming clear victorious.

Armidale won the toss and elected to bat on a hard flat track, soon showing they came to play.

The Armidale openers D. Moore (46) and J. Croft (60) got their side away to a flier and had 110 runs up in the 14th over before Darryl Smith and Simon Peddle snared a couple of wickets between them and slowed the run rate down.

By the 25th over Armidale were 3/142.

The Armidale batsmen were not to be denied though and continued the barrage, finally totalling a massive nine for 303 after 50 overs.

Wicket takers for Moree were Darryl Smith 3-47, Alf Newman 2-55, Beau McMahon 2-73 and Simon Peddle 1-34.

Moree knew they had the job in front of them trying to score at six an over for the whole innings.

In comparison at the 14th over they were 2/52.

Most Moree batsmen got a start but no one could really go on and produce a large score which was what was needed to chase a large target. Mick Davison 45, Darren Smith 38, Nathan Holland 32, Tom Ryan 26 and Simon Peddle 24 were the main contributors.

Unfortunately, it was not enough and Moree were bowled out for 202.

Armidale’s best bowlers were Andrew Curry 3-49, Andrew Skinner 2-31 and Liam Smith 2-13.

Moree skipper Darryl Smith later said his side saved their worst performance for the last game but was very proud of the effort the squad had shown all year to get to the grand final.
