Let’s ride again and bring the Moree BMX Club back.
That’s what Chris Poole, an Australian representative in BMX racing, wants for Moree.
The Moree BMX Club closed down five years ago as interest dropped.
“A lot of people moved to ride at the skate park, choosing freestyle more than racing,” Poole said.
He is a BMX professional rider and has been racing for 16 years. He would like to bring the BMX club back to Moree with local and inter-town races.
At the moment Poole and his friends have to travel to other towns to compete.
He would like to start having races again every two weeks or if enough demand is there every week. All ages are welcome ranging from five to 50. Divisions will be determined by age and ability.
Ideally he would like the club to start next season at the beginning of next year.
If the Moree BMX Club returns it could become part of the Northern New South Wales Series, where championships are scored on a point system. Riders can then take after Poole and participate in the state championships.
He would love the club to have 40 or 50 members as it did in its peak. An aim would be to host the state titles again as was done in 1998 where 600 riders attended.
“We have a good track, it’s not in the best condition, but used to be one of the best tracks around,” he said.
With so many children riding around town, let’s get behind Poole and start the BMX club riding again.
