Fifty-four players at the Moree Golf Course played in the Junior Golf Open this weekend.
Players came from Tamworth, Warialda, Gunnedah, Wee Waa and Bingara.
Nathan Mann from Tamworth won the overall boys champion with 77 strokes.
Melissa O’Keefe from Warialda won the overall girls competition with a score of 88. Jacob Olsen from Moree won the four holes division.
In the nine holes, Mitchell Mack from Bingara beat Koby Went from Moree by one shot.
The under 15 years division was won by Luke Stahlhut from Moree.
Toby Reynolds won the 18 years and under from Wee Waa.
SCOTT Kirkby is putting away at a successful career in golf.
He would like to become a professional golfer when he’s older and is on the right track.
This weekend he won the Moree Junior Golf Open in the under 13 years division.
This was the third year in a row he has won the event in his age group.
His achievement was even more remarkable as he was injured on the day.
The day before he had a scooter incident and dislocated his kneecap.
Scott was limping the whole day but still managed to come first in his division.
He was actually disappointed with his performance.
“I thought I’d played terribly,” he said. Kirkby will represent Moree in the Baker Trinder Shield next month in the North West team.
Scott Kirkby, Angus Croft, Luke Stahlhut and Angus Smith jnr have been selected to play in the North West Golf District Association Side.
