Eleven two-man teams competed from Moree with Jamie and Harry Hardman placing second.
Over three five-hour sessions the Hardmans caught 15 fish with an overall length of 5993cm just chasing the winning length of 6122cm.
Garry Hardman also took part in the competition and placed sixth.
Hardman said the competition was tough fishing because of the influx of water - the dam was at 101 per cent.
“The water was also dirty,” he said.
“It was a different style of fishing because there were no flats and we were around trees with blades,” he said.
Hardman said Moree was represented very well and recommended the competition as a father and son opportunity.
Harry Hardman, who is just seven years of age, had a great time with his father.
“Harry was telling everyone how easy it was to catch a fish,” Hardman said.
“You just throw the line in, real it in and a fish will eat it,” he said.
Competitors are now gearing up for round two next weekend at Lake Burrendong.
There are six rounds in the competition followed by a grand final held on the second weekend in December at Copeton Dam.
