Wendy Caban is a true all round cowgirl champion.
Caban raced home to win the Pro Tour for 2009.
She won three Pro Tour Titles in the Australian Pro Rodeo Association Finals last year.
Caban was the Australian champion and the all round cowgirl Australian champion for 2008.
She was the all round most consistent and top money earner in each event for the past two years.
Caban has high hopes to perform well in the Gold Coast finals this week.
Spider is Caban’s barrel racing horse.
She is happy with his winning performance even though he was ill in the middle of the year.
“He’s tough and gives 100 per cent each time,” she said.
Duke is her breakaway roping equestrian teammate.
Her father gave him to her as a 21st birthday present.
She has trained him herself in the art of roping.
Duke has had his share of injuries and recovered to become a breakaway roping champion.
He broke his face, nostrils and lost some teeth in an accident in the paddock during a thunderstorm.
Caban rides with her body rather than her hands due to his past injuries.
Her husband Troy Caban competes in the calf and team roping with his brother Dale.
All three Cabans, Wendy and Troy from Moree and Troy’s brother Dale of Emerald, are on their way to the Gold Coast finals.
She keeps up to seven horses in Moree.
“I love to be at home looking after and riding my ponies,” she said.
Her goal was to be consistent in the rodeo events.
She puts her success down to practice and keeping her mind focused.
