 One short of a century

One short of a century

18 Jan, 2012 01:19 PM
After an aggressive start, Day brought up his half century in just five overs annihilating the Stallions bowling attack, sending the ball to the boundary on countless occasions.

“I was seeing them alright I guess. I was making most of my runs down the ground and with the pull shot,” Day said.

Teammate Harry Woods said the rest of the team were sitting back and enjoying the show.

“He was sending them everywhere. He was well backed-up by Daniel Taunton,” Woods said.

After a speedy half century Day had set his eyes on posting a score that would knock the Stallions out of contention.

He continued his hot form and before long was in the 90s.

Day spent an entire over on 94 with singles up for the taking.

The Stallions were spread out looking to cut off the boundary. The stage was set. Day knew he had to hit over the top or risk being caught out.

He was waiting for that perfect ball, the ball that could secure him the ton, with a few bragging rights.

But it was not to be.

“Zack Hauser had been bowling pretty well all day. I went for the six and got caught on the boundary,” Day said.

“I didn’t really mind; it was good fun. A highlight was sending Kyle O’Connor over the boundary on his first ball of the over,” Day joked.

Day had previously played in Sydney for St Joseph’s College first XI but hadn’t played much cricket since leaving school.

“It feels good to get out and have a game again,” Day said.

He thought the Crow’s chances were pretty good this season and believed the Royal Hotel Colts would give them a run for their money.

“It will be great to get into the semis. If we keep playing well we should be tough to beat.”

Ben Carrigan also shocked Nash’s transport on the weekend after scoring 107 runs, not out.
