Nash’s won the toss and elected to bat but were sent back to the sheds after just 10 overs at the crease.
Both teams were shy of a few players with the Post Office Hotel finding eight “ring-ins” to fill the void.
Carrigan (5/8 off four overs) came into the attack after Joel Monckton and Tony O’Donnell shared the new ball.
“We had a strong start with Joel claiming two early wickets. Mitch was given the ball in the fifth over and the rest is history,” O’Donnell said.
Carrigan, 24, was “pretty stoked” to come away with the haul and praised the efforts of the boys in the field who kept the pressure on the batsman.
“I wasn’t really expecting to take five wickets. The catch taken by Sandy Bailey in the outfield was definitely the highlight,” Carrigan said.
His wickets were Darrel Smith (16), Clint Thompson (1), Adam Ha (4), Sachin Ramsamy (0) and Matt O’Connor (2).
Carrigan was also left at the crease with Joel Monckton to help score the winning runs in the 11th over.
It is the first game Carrigan has played in Moree since his junior cricket days.
“It was great to get down and have a game again. Hopefully I might be able get down to some of the remaining games,” he said.
While O’Donnell was full of praise for Carrigan’s bowling and the PO’s fielding efforts he believed they were lucky to get away with the win after an average performance with the willow.
“We definitely need a bit more work with the bat if we want to stick it to the stronger teams,” O’Donnell said.
“We were pretty lucky to walk away with the bickies this week,” he said.
