Finals fever

27 Jan, 2012 12:16 PM
Four teams will be battling it out in the semis for a place in the final.

The Rowe will be taking on The Post Office Hotel and The Royal Hotel Colts will be up against The Crows.

After a disappointing week for the Crows and the Post Office the boys will be looking to take out the favourites in the upcoming semi-final.

The two semi-finals will be held simultaneously at 12.30pm before the final starts at 3.30pm.

Moree District Cricket Association president Rob Humphries was happy with how the 20/20 season panned out.

“It’s been good,” Humphries said.

“The Rowe and Colts will be tough to beat,” he said.

Humphries said this season was a lot shorter than the last.

“We could probably run it over a few extra weeks next year so everyone gets to play each other,” he said.

Last Saturday’s cricket action saw the Colts take down the Post Office, Nashs take out the Servies, the Rowe beat the Crows and the Stallions sent the Golfies walking.

Allan Wells made a solid half century which cemented the win for the Stallions.

“I was on course for a 100 but lacked a bit of conditioning,” Wells said. “It was a good way to finish off the 20/20 season.”

Rod Tighe and Alex Barker sealed the deal for The Rowe after Tighe belted the opposition for 44. Barker backed it up by making 40 runs.

Max Houlahan continued to impress for the Royal Hotel Colts after opening the

batting and scoring a solid 67 runs.

He belted eight sixes and sent three balls along the ground to the boundary.

Nashs upset an understrength services club side with Darrel Smith continuing his strong form scoring 56 runs.

The 40-over competition will continue from next week on.

Eight teams will be battling it out with the Rowe B re-joining the competition and the Crows dropping out.

Let’s hope the rain holds off this Saturday and the finals can attract a few spectators to support the boys.
