Rabbitohs v Dragons for charity shield

02 Feb, 2012 09:06 AM
The event started with a couple of bowlers getting together every Friday and Saturday for a game.

It all started as a bit of fun, but as they received more community support the event became what it is today.

This fun filled day is on Saturday, February 18 starting at 3.30pm.

Anyone over 18 is allowed to participate and you don’t even have to be a member to play.

Previous years have seen the winners and organisers doing victory laps, the mascots having a ball and not to mention a bit of sibling rivalry between Robin and Michael King.

Michael is ready to wear his Dragons shirt and begin the battle of the siblings and nothing will stop him, not even the rain. “I don’t care how much rain there is the day will be on, inside or out,” King said.

The teams will consist of three players but single names will be taken at New England Mutual or Moree and District Services Club. Entries to play close Friday, February 17. The cost will be $10 per player which includes a barbecue.

All proceeds of the day will be donated to the alzheimer’s and dementia unit at Fairview. The money goes towards equipment such as bedding, wheelchairs and furniture.

Chief executive officer of Fairview, Brett Arthur said the day was part of ongoing support from New England Mutual and much fun for any age. “The day is always successful. I just want to thank the New England Credit Union for giving the money to a worthy cause; we sincerely appreciate it,” he said.

Prizes for first, second and third place will be presented whilst dinner and the footy is on.
