AS a result of ongoing, heavy rainfall, several towns across New South Wales have and will continue to be affected by rising water levels in natural bodies of water.
At present there are flood warnings for 16 regions across the state including:
- The Clarence River
- Bellinger River
- Macleay River
- Hastings River
- Manning River
- Orara River
- MacIntyre River
- Gwydir River
- Peel and Namoi Rivers
- Castlereagh River
- Culgoa, Bokhara and Narran Rivers
- Warrego River
- Paroo River
- Barwon and Darling Rivers
- Paterson and Williams Rivers
- Nambucca River

For residents of flood-affected areas, the State Emergency Service along with the Bureau of Meteorology have issued some simple safety precautions.
Before the flood:
- Take your important documents, mementos and photos.
- Take your Emergency Kit, spare clothing and medicines.
- If possible, check to see if your neighbours need help.
- Turn off the electricity and gas at the mains before you leave and turn off and secure any gas bottles.
- Take you pets with you.
During the flood:
- Don’t walk, ride or drive through floodwater.
- Keep listening to your local radio station for updates.
- Follow your Home or Business FloodSafe plan.
- Follow all instructions given to you by emergency services.
A fter the flood:
- Don’t drink flood water.
- Don’t play in flood water.
- Don’t enter flood water until current strength has been assessed.

In the event of an emergency, residents should call Police/Fire/Ambulance on 000 or the State Emergency Service on 132 500.
