Devastation has swept across the Stockill household - or what’s left of it.
Three sandbags high didn’t stop water seeping into the Mitchell Street home.
Not only was the house inundated with water but two cars, a caravan and a bus were also affected by the water.
Unfortunately for the Stockills the SES response was seen as “inadequate.”
“We don’t want to take a stab at the SES but we have good reason to,” Edward Stockill said. “We always hear about the glossy bits in the media, not about the poor bloke who was left isolated with nothing but a mattress submerged in water,” he said.
Elizabeth Stockill phoned the SES on Friday morning.
After a delayed wait she was connected and told that the SES was going to assist the family if they could get to them.
“No-one came near us,” Mr Stockill said. “It’s not hard to return our call and let us know what is happening.”
At 10.30pm the SES had returned their call.
Mrs Stockill was forced to evacuate her home and seek accommodation.
Mr Stockill slept inside the house on a mattress that was inches away from the flood water.
According to Mr Stockill boats were seen driving through floodwater down Mitchell Street.
“I don’t know why they couldn’t get to us? I understand they were busy but we were in need of assistance… and it never came.”
