Single vehicle accident

02 Sep, 2010 05:44 PM
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a single vehicle accident on the Fossickers Way, 1.6km south of Warialda Rail.

Emergency services were called shortly after 3pm on Tuesday, August 31, when a northbound sedan left the roadway coming to rest in the culvert on the eastern side of the highway.

The driver, a 68-year-old female and an 18-month-old passenger freed themselves from the wreckage soon after.

An 18-year-old female believed to be travelling in the rear of the vehicle was trapped for sometime before being released by emergency services.

The young female was air lifted by Westpac Rescue Helicopter to Tamworth Base Hospital for treatment including suspected spinal injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was transported by road ambulance to Tamworth Base Hospital while the young child was treated and released at Bingara Hospital.

Detectives and crime scene investigators were present at the scene and made arrangements for the vehicle to be towed for further examination.
