Dirt, sweat and destruction will be rampant on Saturday night at the Moree Showgrounds when Monster Trucks Australia show off their vehicles, but it’s all in the name of fun.
Monster Trucks Australia owner Clive Featherby said he was looking forward to the Moree Monster Truck Show despite it being smaller than usual.
“We usually don’t go to towns with under 40,000 people, but we made an exception for Moree because Chris (George) grew up here and has been asking us to come here for a while,” he said.
Mr George has been working on Mr Featherby’s impressive trucks for about 15 years.
They had the world finals in Brisbane, Queensland, at the weekend where 19,000 people turned up to watch the action. It was their biggest event yet, and this week it will be their smallest, but that doesn’t matter to Mr Featherby. “This is the smallest event we’ve ever done, but it won’t take away from the show,” Mr Featherby said.
“We’ll unleash them on the night.”
On the night there will be jumps, Wheel Stand competitions, and of course the much anticipated Moree’s Bombiest Car Competition where the winner’s car will be dropped from 50 metres in the air.
They won’t walk away empty handed though. The prize includes a cheque for $2500 and another $500 worth of gifts.
Moree Secondary College Carol Avenue campus was treated to a pre-show glimpse of the action yesterday when the Monster Trucks team visited the school.
Teacher aid Fiona Stahlhut watched her car go under the wheels of Taz, driven by Barry Gaunt, Monster Trucks driver from the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.
“Our children learned to drive in it but now it’s not registered so we thought we’d donate it to the school,” Ms Stahlhut said.
Moree Secondary College Carol Avenue campus student Zac Maher has been instrumental in organising the Bombiest Car Competition, a fundraiser for the school.
“I think the show will be pretty good,” he said.
“I, Miss George and heaps of other students put in 110 per cent of our time to get the Monster Trucks here, I think it will be a great success,” he said.
