Doctors Sarah Chamberlain and Ken Mackun have joined the medical team at the Associate Medical Practice in Moree.
Dr Chamberlain grew up on a property just outside Moree.
She was happy to be back working in the community for six months.
“I am interested in medicine in a rural area for the variety of work in the practice and the independence,” she said.
She will then further her procedural training in obstetrics or anaesthetics at a larger centre.
Ms Chamberlain was brought to Moree as part of the GP Synergy as a GP registrar in the rural pathway.
Dr MacKun was also brought to Moree as part of the GP Synergy program.
Dr Mackun is required to practice for six months in a rural area.
However, he has decided to extend his stay to twelve months.
“There is a lot to learn in rural areas as you can see a lot more patients and refer less than in the city,” he said.
He is impressed with the level of care the doctors in Moree provide.
“The GP’s are top class in Moree,” he said.
Dr Mackun studied medicine at Sydney University.
He was initially studying to pursue science as a career.
“I missed the human interaction.
“I became interested in medicine and am happy with my decision,” he said.
He has been working for the last two years at Nepean Hospital and was originally a registrar at Concord Hospital.
He has chosen to be a GP as his specialty area.
“You get to see a bit of everything and can be involved in the lives of people from childbirth to old age,” he said.
Dr Chamberlain agreed that practicing as a GP is rewarding.
“The continuity of care is rewarding,” she said.
She is looking forward to gaining procedural skills to bring to her role as a rural GP.
She completed a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at Adelaide University she has been working in Goondiwindi in a relieving position as a GP and with the hospital on call.
This experience has made her transition to Moree a lot easier.
Dr Chamberlain and Dr Mackun would like to thank the doctors at Associate Medical Practice in Moree for their support.
