A disability service will now be able to support the local community.
The Northcott Disability Service opened a Moree office on Tuesday with about 50 guests attending.
The service will provide support for families of a young person with a disability.
Three staff will be based in Moree and will provide two main programs; the Aboriginal Intensive Family Support Program and Individual Family Support Program.
Northern Hunter region manager April Cochrane said the service is available to identify the needs of such families and work with them to find their aims to then assist them with achieving these goals.
She said this could involve linking the families to other services, helping them access therapy, finding them parenting programs, counselling and a whole range of other services.
Northcott also has a Tamworth-based office that already has many Moree clients, thus being the reason to open an office locally.
“We have a focus of being in the community where the community needs us to be,” Ms Cochrane said.
“We believe in being active in the community and supporting families so they can be active in the community,” she said.
The Moree office of the Northcott Disability Service is located in the Criterion Centre in Balo St or you can find more information at www.northcott.com.au
