Murder in Moree

A 44-year-old local man has died after being stabbed.

His 45-year-old defacto partner appeared in court in Moree yesterday charged with murder.

The offender was bail refused in Moree court yesterday and the case was adjourned until tomorrow.

The incident occurred about 3am Sunday morning when police and ambulance were called to a residence in Anne St.

Upon arrival the man was found with a stab wound and was treated by paramedics at the scene.

He was rushed to hospital where he underwent emergency surgery but later died.

Police arrested the woman at the scene and escorted her to the Moree Police Station.

The crime scene was examined and released with forensic police attending from Tamworth, Inverell and Lismore.

The man’s body was conveyed to Newcastle where a post mortem was to be carried out yesterday.

The incident is still under investigation and no names had yet been released yesterday afternoon.

Barwon commander Bob Barnett said counselling would be offered to the police officers that were involved with the incident.
