Crowd favourite Rebecca Byrne from Moree is this year’s winning Spunk.
She won The Land’s 2009-10 Hunks and Spunks competition.
Ms Byrne won from 200 entrants from throughout NSW.
Miss Byrne, 23, is a spunk inside and out.
She contributes to her community in Moree in many ways.
She is an agronomist with Industry and Investment NSW, coaches little athletics, is on the Moree Show Society Committee, a volunteer fire fighter with the rural fire service and finds the time to play in the tennis and netball competitions.
And she has only been living in Moree for a year.
Ms Byrne won prizes worth $2600 which include accommodation for 2 in Darling Harbour, Sydney, a new phone from Telstra, a clothing voucher from Birdsnest.com.au, a swag from Goodwoods Saddlery, membership to the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW, an Akubra and champagne from Casella wines.
She is looking for a hunk to take to Sydney for the accommodation prize.
“All I need now is a hunk to take with me,” she said,
Ms Byrne put her victory down to the support of her family and friends. “I’d like to say that I won legitimately but my mum and her tennis and choir friends all voted for me.
“I also got a lot of local support from friends in Moree and, friends from her home town of Cooma and uni mates from Canbera,” she said.
She would like to thank The Land, the competition sponsors and Anne Marie’s Boutique in Moree where she bought her winning Charlie Brown dress.
Her win was announced at the Walcha Racing Cup Carnival the day before Valentine’s Day on Sunday, February 13.
She was one of ten finalists that answered questions in front of the 900 strong crowd at the races.
She said that she was lucky with her questions about her job and her German fan club.
She was accompanied by her friend Jules Wilms and Gesa Neckel from Germany to the races.
“Yes, they came especially from Germany to come and see me,” she joked to the crowd.
“My questions were really good, some were embarrassing,” she said
Ms Wilms from Germany is a friend Bec made in Moree as she is an au pair at a property in Pally.
Ms Byrne was nominated for the competition by Georgina Poole at the Twilight Races at Moree in December last year.
