A Moree man is in the running for the 2010 Deadlys Community Broadcaster of the Year award.
Radio personality, Mission Beat host Glen Crump, said he was honoured to be among the four nominees for the award category.
Mr Crump is both the youngest nominee in the Community Broadcaster of the Year award category and the only one from NSW.
His fellow contenders are Anthony Brown of 3KND in Melbourne, Mechelle Wilson of 6NME Noongar Radio in Perth, and Lloyd Wyles of 4KIG in Townsville.
It came as a surprise, Mr Crump said, to be selected from the “hundreds” of those eligible.
“It just goes to show how popular the radio show is,” he said.
Both Indigenous and non-Indigenous listeners tuned in for the Mission Beat program, he said, which covered a wide range of issues in the Aboriginal community.
The Deadlys are an annual celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander achievement in music, sport, entertainment and community.
Vibe Australia hosts the event, which has been held since 1995.
The community section, in which Mr Crump was nominated, has seven categories, including two new categories for 2010.
Deadlys executive producer Gavin Jones congratulated all the award nominees.
“It is a true honour to be recognised by your people, and it is our privilege to organise these awards.
“In some small way, we are paying tribute to the great work of our community award nominees,” he said.
Mr Crump said he was looking forward to seeing people he has admired over the years, including Jessica Mauboy, of whom he is a big fan and has previously interviewed.
The 2010 Deadlys award ceremony will be held at the Sydney Opera House on September 27.
