Moree is going against the trend and is still seeing a high influx of visitors.
With people meant to be going through tougher times tourism should be seeing a decline but for Moree it is the opposite.
Tourism Moree chief executive officer Tammy Elbourne says accommodation has been booked out every weekend.
“During the past two months our numbers through the visitor centre have been record numbers for the past eight years,” Mrs Elbourne said.
She said they were also seeing a large cross section of the tourism sector.
Mrs Elbourne said it was “footloose” events that are being held in Moree that keep people coming back.
She said events like Moree on a Plate, the motocross, fishing competition and having a long weekend all bring people to Moree.
“We have people ringing about the motocross this weekend and we don’t have any beds left,” she said.
“Whilst the market is shifting in other areas we are still getting a good response.
“Every couple of weeks we are booked out. It’s extraordinary.”
Mrs Elbourne said there was also plenty of interest coming in from special groups with bookings of tours booked as far ahead as next year.
“It’s really encouraging,” she said.
“This is why it is so important for the community to support these kind of events. We are getting a really good reputation.”
