Fairview Retirement Village will soon be holding a wake in remembrance of the original building and all the residents, carers, and family members who have passed through its doors over the last 30 years.
Fairview director of nursing Lynette Nilsson said the remembrance day would be held on Saturday, November 7, from 4pm.
“We’re having a wake for the old building,” Ms Nilsson said.
“We’re going to have a memorial service in the gardens,” she said.
Ms Nilsson said the event was open to members of the public, family members of relatives, past and present carers, and past and present residents.
She said guests were welcome to stay on for dinner after the memorial service and afternoon tea, and were encouraged to bring a picnic basket for the occasion.
“People are welcome to stay on for dinner.
“All are invited, particularly people in the community who would have had relatives that were cared for there,” Ms Nilsson said.
She said the “wake” was a precursor to the official opening of the two new wards at Fairview.
Ms Nilsson said the new units were scheduled for an official opening in May 2010.
The secure unit is scheduled for occupancy later this month.
More to come in the Moree Champion.
