Women Making a Splash is not just a conference but part of a week of activities to be held in Moree celebrating women’s contribution to their community.
The Australian Local Government Women’s Association Conference coincides with 2010 being the year of Women in Local Government.
Speakers will address issues at the conference, seminars and events not just about government but issues that face women and the community.
The Moree Zonta Club has organised a breakfast for International Women’s Day on Saturday, March 6.
Guest Speaker will be Kellie Mills, a coach, mentor, creative thinker and leader.
She will also be presenting a workshop on ‘Talking to Aliens - Male/Female Communication’ at the breakfast.
Their will be community exhibitions that everyone is welcome to walk into and have a look with free entry.
The Community Exhibition will be on display at the Moree Memorial Hall on Friday, March 5, from 9am to 5pm.
The exhibition is aimed at showcasing women’s community groups, businesses and achievements.
The Moree Plains Community Library will highlight women authors and display portrayals of the achievements of women in a diverse range of areas.
A presentation will be held on Monday, March 8, about Mary Gaudron by her biographer Pam Burton.
She is a former Moree citizen who became the first female High Court judge in Australia.
Moree Plains Shire Council human resources manager Debby Baxter-Tomkins would like everyone in the community to take part.
“The whole community is invited to join in and attend the different events.
“To hear inspirational stories of women who have with support gone on to achieve great things.
“Inspiration and support will be on offer to encourage anyone to gain skills and knowledge of a community group or business that they weren’t aware of,” she said.
Moree Plains Shire Council put a bid in 2008 and won the rights to host the ALGWA this year.
Neighbouring shires will have stands at the week long event to showcase their districts.
“It is a regional event, not just for Moree,” Mrs Baxter-Tomkins said.
