“It’s a great budget for country NSW”.
According to Country Labour Duty MLC for Barwon Christine Robertson the NSW budget released on Tuesday has invested in a better future for Barwon.
There has been some key funding for Moree.
An announcement of $1.3 million for road resurfacing on the Newell Highway at Mungle Creek has been made.
There will also be some significant work carried out on local bridges with $3 million allocated to replace the bridge over the Barwon River on the Carnarvon Highway at Mungindi, $1.8 million to replace the bridge over the Barwon River on the Boomi-Talwood Rd and $700,000 for the upgrade of the bridge over the Nee Nee Creek on the Newell Highway.
An additional $16.3 million has been committed for pre-construction work of the Moree bypass.
According to State Member for Barwon Kevin Humphries there will have been $36 million spent on the bypass by the end of the year.
There has also been $200,000 allocated towards a new police station for Moree.
Mr Humphries said there was also quite a substantial amount allocated for the large-scale social housing project taking place in Moree.
He said the remainder of the funds were mostly generic including halving stamp duty on newly built houses for a six-month period.
Each electorate will also be entitled to up to $400,000 in funding for community-based projects.
“Everything else is as usual,” he said.
Mr Humphries said he needed to be cautious.
“It is how the money is spent that is the issue,” he said.
“We are one of the best electorates funding wise,” he said.
“But projects like the Aboriginal community development housing program is two years behind. We are still waiting for construction.”
