Heavy vehicle drivers’ fines to be waived

18 Feb, 2010 09:25 AM
Heavy vehicle drivers using Industrial Drive last week were faced with an unusual situation.

Road train and b-double operators were pulled over by RTA inspectors because the road was not gazetted for their use.

Moree Plains Shire Mayor Katrina Humphries said any fines issued to heavy vehicle drivers along Industrial Drive by the RTA would be waived as long as the vehicles weren’t overloaded.

Cr Humphries said the road was not gazetted.

However, she said it was a major oversight by council and the State Government, and any heavy vehicle operator who had received a fine could come to her for it to be waived.

The road would soon possess the proper documentation, she said.

“I’ve been assured nobody will be fined as long as they aren’t overloaded,” Cr Humphries said.

An RTA spokesperson said no heavy vehicle operators had been fined for using Industrial Drive in Moree.

“The gazettal of Industrial Drive for use by road trains and b-doubles is a matter for Moree Plains Shire Council. To date council has not gazetted this road as a road train or b-double approved route due to the tight turning paths at the intersection of Tycannah Street and Bullus Drive,” the spokesperson said. The issue was expected to be fully resolved in the next two weeks, he said.
