Get ready to ride at Gravesend

23 Feb, 2010 05:32 PM
The Gravesend Rodeo is back this year, bigger and better than ever.

The Rodeo has been running for 50 years.

However, last year heavy rain washed out the venue, and in 2007 and 2008 the horse flu prevented the rodeo from running.

Natalie Taylor has been busy training for the event to be held on Saturday, February 27, at Gravesend.

She will be competing in the novice and open barrel race and the breakaway roping.

She will ride horse Towbar in the roping and a young horse that Anne Woodham owns, called Ranchwood Kid Rock, in the barrel racing.

She started working with Kid Rock last year.

Gravesend will be his first open barrel race, and she is happy with his preparation so far.

“He’s going well,” she said.

Ms Taylor had success in the rodeo circuit with Towbar.

She competed at Walgett Rodeo last year in the breakaway roping with Towbar.

“I came second in the breakaway roping,” she said.

Not only will Anne Woodham’s horses’ talents be on display but also herself and her whole family will compete at the rodeo.

Mrs Woodham is entered in the breakaway roping and barrel racing.

Her grandson Justin Scoggin and her daughter Debbie Palmer will take part in the roping and barrel racing.

Her husband, Chris Woodham, will be team roping and her son-in-law Mark Palmer will ride broncs.

It is expected 30 to 40 competitors will participate in each event.

At 5.30pm the meet-and-greet cowboys and cowgirls will be on hand at the rodeo to offer advice about how to get started in the sport.

Entries are open, however novice or junior barrel race competitors can enter on the day.

Spectators can bring swags and camp over at the grounds.

A classic and vintage car exhibition will be on display at the event.
