Fun times look to be ahead for Moree if even just some of the ideas birthed from a public forum and breakfast held by the Business Expansion and Retention (BEAR) project of Moree.
BEAR held a breakfast on Tuesday, October 27, after a Café Solution’s public forum held the Wednesday before.
Members of the business public coincided with BEAR to create working groups to tackle the issues brought up in the forum.
BEAR co-chair Troy Cussen said he was looking forward to the positive impact the projects would have on the appearance and appeal of the township of Moree.
“What the working groups will hopefully achieve is to get onto some of the more achievable of the projects suggested at the forum,” Mr Cussen said.
The public forum held a week earlier brought about 80 to 90 ideas for the business and tourism community of Moree. They were then categorised into seven topics.
They were then whittled down through a vote from seven topics to three areas of highest concern. These three were image, children and families and Moree Town Pool.
Other topics, which Mr Cussen said would be followed up at a later date, were entertainment, youth and community.
He said the youth were involved at the forum and would get to work on a youth working group with the Moree Plains Shire Council after the completion of their HSC.
“They are really, really keen to get involved,” he said.
“They don’t want to leave town at the end of school just because there is a lack of entertainment for the youth.”
Tourism and entertainment ideas for Moree that came out of the forum were mini golf at the golf club, PCYC children’s birthday parties and more attractions for the town’s youth.
Other issues BEAR hope to look into are Big W, encouraging people to talk positive about Moree, public toilets and the entry signs on the highway.
BEAR started in Moree recently to help the town work with its current business and tourism assets.
