Focus on driver safety

02 Sep, 2010 05:42 PM
The Moree Motortrade Expo this Sunday will feature a Road Safety Month exhibition, providing information to drivers of all ages and experience.

A joint operation between the Moree Plains Shire Council and emergency services, ‘So You Think You Can Drive?’ is an initiative to get people thinking a little more about safety on the road.

Moree Police leading senior constable Alan Bridge said any event which allowed emergency services and members of the Moree community to mingle and talk freely was a good way to promote safer driving.

Police and other emergency service representatives would be there to answer everyone’s questions, Constable Bridge said.

Moree Plains Shire and Gwydir councils road safety officer Kylie Kerr said the stall at the Motortrade Expo was part of a wider month-long program running through September.

“We’ve got a lot of people helping us, so that in itself shows people are keen to do something,” Mrs Kerr said.

Road Safety Month is a unique program to the Moree Plains and Gwydir shires, consisting of the expo stall, educational workshops for young drivers, and other safety awareness events.

So You Think You Can Drive? Will be held in conjunction with the Moree Motortrade Expo and Jellicoe Park Markets on Sunday, September 5, from 8am to 1pm.
