A dark cloud surrounds whether Moree Plains Shire Council truly believes in community consultation.
A press release dated Friday, January 15, was sent to the Moree Champion and other media outlets by the council, detailing a list of community meetings between yesterday and Friday, February 19. It was embargoed until February 18, which meant the media were not allowed to publish the details of this press release until this date.
The meetings asked for the community’s vision for Moree Plains Shire in 20 years’ time. The council sent a further release on these meetings on Friday, but this time there was no embargo.
The Moree Champion contacted the council to shed some light on the issue.
“That should not have gone out with an embargo. That was a 100 per cent mistake. It’s just a clerical error,” Moree Plains Shire Council integrated planning project manager Mark Connolly said.
“We wanted to give people notice,” Mr Connolly said.
“This is the next step in the community strategic plan, which outlines the long-term goals and aspirations for Moree Plains Shire for what they want over the next 20 years,” he said.
