C’mon let’s keep Moree alive

Moree is at threat if residents continue to shop in nearby centres.

Thursday’s Spring into Moree campaign will hopefully entice people to shop locally and therefore keep jobs in our town.

A part of the new Healing Waters Festival, this event will incorporate a market day from 9am Thursday, culminating in the main street carnival from 5pm to 7pm.

The BEAR Group, interested in improving the local economy and Moree’s image, is coordinating Spring into Moree and member Troy Cussen encourages residents to support their town.

“Spring into Moree is a shop local campaign to promote local business and to keep the money local,” Mr Cussen said.

“It’s important for the future of our town and employment of our youth,” he said.

“If people don’t shop locally more businesses will close.

“We just need to make people aware if they don’t shop locally, there will be less and less services.

“Ultimately the town will start to die.”

Following the success of the Moree Champion Crazy Day in April, Mickey and Minnie Mouse will return to Moree on Thursday. They will be joined by other Disney characters including Batman and Robin, Scooby Doo, Pink Panther and Tweety Bird.

There will be other amusements for children like a merry-go-round, service clubs and schools will be involved, and local bands and physiculture members will showcase their talent.

Don’t forget the major prize draw takes place on the night with $7000 first prize, $2000 second prize and $1000 third prize to be spent at any of the 104 participating businesses.

All you need to do to enter is spend more than $20 at any one of these businesses to go into the draw.

The Spring into Moree campaign is a combined initiative of the BEAR Group and the Moree and District Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
