Chopper to drop supplies in Mungindi

03 Feb, 2012 02:48 PM
MOREE Plains Shire Council has advised a helicopter is expected to drop supplies to Mungindi, which has been surrounded by water.

In a post on social networking site Facebook, Cr Sue Price said Mingindi township was dry but there was 'an inland sea' between Mungindi and Moree.

Mungindi has been cut off on all sides and some supplies, such as milk, have run low.

A helicopter delivery is expected sometime this afternoon.

Cr Price said the Macintyre was expected to peak at 7.3m on Tuesday but that the water wouldn't be as much of an issue to the town as the water in and around Moree, which will keep Mungindi cut off.

Cr Price said she was thinking of those in the flood zone and reminded everyone to stay safe.

The council has received numerous reports of children playing in flood waters and advised residents to steer clear of the hazard.

Residents have also been advised the Jellicoe Park Markets, which would have been held on Sunday in Moree, have been cancelled.
